INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION
(IODA) CONFERENCE

Topic:   APPRECIATIVE LEADING:
Seeing a way to a healthy world

Global disarray marked our arrival into the 21st century. But while anxiety, terrorism, fundamentalist thinking, and even war seem to most characterize the themes of our organizational/community conversations in this early part of the new century, instances of positive conversation between individuals and within groups happen every day.

What is it that compels people to come together into this positive conversation and purposeful bond?

In this presentation with interactive discussion/application, participants from the original research team discuss and illustrate how individual leaders contribute to a world of economic, political and social health. In addition, early reports from the field citing the positive impact of shaping leaders’ identity to embrace leading appreciatively are presented.

In addition to teaching in the graduate programs of Bastyr University/Leadership Institute of Seattle (LIOS), Seattle University, and the University of San Francisco, Sherene Zolno, along with partner Richard Skillman, leads the Coaching Certification program in Whole System Change.

Sherene Zolno spoke at the

INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP ASSOCIATION (ILA) CONFERENCE

Topic:   MODEL FOR A HEALTHY WORLD: the core competencies of leaders

When a national team of leadership researchers examined effective leadership alongside innovative thinking in other fields (ecology, sustainability, psychology, communication, positive inquiry, and the new sciences, for example) they identified the core competencies needed by leaders. This session introduces the Model for a Healthy World, derived from that research.

In this session, participants will not only learn about the research team’s results, they will experience the developmental strategies (learning, coaching, partnering and catalyzing) that research has shown to lead to the creation of healthier, sustainable human systems. Participants will initiate the process of transforming their sense of themselves by challenging their own limiting beliefs, becoming inquirers and learners, explore the key skills of coaching to engender a passionate, responsible relationship for creating an opening for action and engagement, and identify the requirements for partnering and catalyzing whole and sustainable systems.
